Unit 3 – additional study resources

Periodic Table/Resource Sheet

You will receive a copy of a periodic table and other resources with your proctored, paper and pencil exam.  A copy of the periodic table you will receive is at this link. It includes a periodic table as well as other data tables, values for constants, etc in a quick reference format. Take a look at it, so you know what info you will have available on the exam.

CHEM 151 EXAM 3 “Equation and Memorization Document”

This document is a quick reference list of facts, equations, etc that might be useful to students during an exam.  Is is NOT a complete list of what you will need to know or equations you might use on an exam and is not a substitute for knowing the material, bit you might find it helpful as a quick reference or review.

Practice Exam 3 CHEM 151

This paper and pen practice exam will give you an idea of the length and difficulty of your real, CHEM 151 Unit 3 exam.  It does NOT mean that your real exam will contain the same questions or very similar questions with the numbers changed.  It will likely not be helpful to you to memorize the questions on the practice exam in the hope that you will get the same or similar questions on the real exam.  You may then ask, well what is the purpose of the practice exam?  What it WILL do is give you an idea of the length, difficulty, and general types of questions you are likely to see on the exam.  If you find it difficult, you will likely find the exam difficult.  If you can finish it easily in under an hour, the same will likely be true with the real exam.  Students who have found the practice exam useful have told me they use it like this:

  1. They take it a day or so in advance (after studying for the exam) and pretend it is a real exam.
  2. They try to complete it in an hour, without interruption, under the same conditions as the real exam (not looking up things to figure out or studying as they do it).  If they find certain ares easy, it is some confirmation they they are prepared in those topics or types of problems
  3. If they don’t know how to do questions or get them wrong, that is a hint that they might need to study those areas more or get help.

I would recommend that you try to use the practice quizzes and the practice exams in this way — many students have told me this helps.
