Thermochemistry – energy related to chemical change
In this topic, we will look at energy production and exchange in chemistry. Thermochemistry is the study of the relationship between chemical reactions and energy. We usually think of chemical reactions as supplying energy (such as when we burn fuel), but come chemical changes require energy be supplied to take place.
Thermochemistry is part of the field of thermodynamics, which is the study of energy and its interconversions. If you take CHEM 152, you will continue the study of thermodynamics in that class.
