Acids and Bases

In Unit 2, you were introduced briefly to the idea of acids and bases, primarily as they pertained to their reactions in aqueous solutions with molecular, ionic, and net ionic reactions in acid-base neutralization reactions.

Now we will continue our look at acids and bases, beginning with broader definitions that expand beyond just aqueous solutions.  We will then look at acid and base strength in terms of what you learned in the previous chapter on equilibrium.

After that, we will look at the concept of pH and how it is used to quantify acidity or basicity in aqueous solutions of acids and bases and pH calculations of solutions of strong and weak acids and bases.

You will then examine the acid-base properties of salts before closing with a look at how chemical structure affects the relative strength of acids and bases.
