Here are some reminders and updates in the course for the end of week 2 and the beginning of week 3 (Jan 24-30)

Error on Acid Base Review Supplemental Homework question

On the supplemental homework exercise you completed recently, there was an error in Question 5.  The correct answer for the pH of a 0.0100 M KOH solution is 12.00.  You did receive credit for this answer on any of your attempts.

Assignments and topics for next week (see the Course Schedule)

• The 2nd supplemental homework assignment (Common ion and Buffer) is due Monday 1/24.
• Quiz 1 – Acid-Base Review, Common Ion and Buffer due Sunday 1/24.  This quiz is NOT on D2L – it is available under Unit 1 in the menu of this course website.  Or at this link.  Follow the directions and submit it by 11:59 pm Monday 1/24.
• Begin the next topic – Acid-Base titrations.  Supplemental HW questions for this topic will be available by Tuesday 1/25 and due Monday 1/31.

Why are the supplemental homework questions located under “Quizzes” in D2L but Quiz 1 (and your other quizzes this semester) is not?

This is a good question and one that sometimes causes confusion.  The reason is this — In D2L, quizzes are graded assignments that are automatically graded within D2L and in which you must input your answers into D2L.  This describes the supplemental homework assignments.  It also describes your Unit Exams and Final Exam, which is why they will also be under Quizzes in D2L.

But quiz 1 was not posted in D2L, mainly because I wanted you to have a pencil and paper quiz that I could grade for partial credit and write comments on, rather than having D2L grade.  The quiz was posted under Unit 1 in the menu of this course website.  All remaining quizzes this semester will be posted in their appropriate units in the same way.
